Mountain restaurants

Megève is justifiably famous for its great mountain restaurants, but remember to book ahead. Our favourites include:

• La Ravière (00 33 450 93 15 71), a small hut on Mont d’arbois that does a big set 3 course meal. Epic.
• Le Radaz (00 33 450 58 94 44) is a tiny timber chalet at the head of the Cote 2000 valley. Try the écorce de sapin, a mini Mont D'or baked in its own wooden pot.
• Auberge du Christomet (00 33 450 21 11 34) on the smaller Le Jaillet side, serves outstanding rabbit and steak tartare.

Restaurants in town

Unsurprisingly, perhaps, classic French cuisine dominates the town, with a liberal sprinkling of Michelin stars. Top of the tree is the 2-star Flocons de Sel (00 33 450 21 49 99).

For more classic French bistro try the Brasserie Centrale (00 33 450 21 22 44), while trendy Cintra (00 33 450 21 02 60) has a good selection of fresh seafood. There is also a wide variety of good pizzerias.

Après-ski and nightlife 

This is not a resort for dancing till dark in your ski boots. It's got a more chilled out vibe and is best enjoyed by strolling the romantic streets arm in arm with your loved one. You can duck into one of the numerous cafés for hot chocolate and cakes, or if you want something a little stronger, people watch from the heated terraces of one of the smaller bars lining the pedestrian route.

The old Club de Jazz (00 33 450 91 90 69) is an expensive place for a cocktail but still pulls in some big names. The younger crowd hangs out at saisonaire favourites Wake Up and the Kitchen Café. More bar than kitchen or café, it's got a good vibe and is our top pick for tunes. The Cocoon is another popular spot and there is always the casino if you're feeling flush.
