Journey:

"By taking the train you get right to the heart of the resort with no long transfers (to Oulx from Paris Gare de Lyon is the quickest way to Montgenevre in this case).  There are no luggage restrictions, no long waiting times at the airport, no worrying if the aeroplane is going to turn up (one ski-ing trip the plane was 8 hours late).  For children there are lots of things to do and look at on the journey and you do feel like you have journeyed to the Alps rather than being plonked down in them.  I would highly recommend.  You can also feel highly virtuous about your carbon footprint.

"Montgenevre is a lovely resort; the views are gorgeous and there is a range of skiing.  It is family friendly and access to the snow fields could not be easier.  There were no queues despite it being half term.  This was our second time at the resort because we enjoyed it so much the first time.

"We found the whole rail experience very relaxing compared to flying. As we travel from the North of England we take the opportunity to break the journey in London on the way out and Paris on the way back, we wouldn't do this if we flew.

"The journey is very relaxing, the trains comfortable (especially on the French side) and the service great. It's become a part of holiday we rely enjoy, the cost difference is not great for us and far outweighed by the experience of a really relaxing way to travel."
