Ski resorts by train

“We decided to be a bit more adventurous and try Switzerland by train.”

Journey

Journey:

Having previously used the train to travel to the French ski resorts. We decided to be a bit more adventurous and try Switzerland by train.

We booked through Eurostar and did the Liile connection onto Geneva. Having passed through Geneva several times ‎when we have previously flown to the Alps, we seized the opportunity to stay over for the night. Just opposite the station there was an amazing lively bar called Les Brasseurs. It offered great simple food and own-brewed beer  - what more do you need?

There are plenty of hotels around the station we used the Ibis Styles, which was great - friendly staff and just a short walk across the road from the station. We were also given a free 24-hour travel pass to use on the cities public transport.

The next morning we set off for our skiing destination  - Saas Fee -  using the Swiss Transfer ticket. We just sat back and took in the beautiful scenery (Tip: sit on the righthand side if you can). There are several trains to Visp station throughout the day.  Then when you arrive in Visp take the 511 Bus to Saas Fee it links up with the train.

When you arrive in Saas Fee, with the Village being traffic free ‎just call your Hotel and they will pick you up from the bus station and transfer you to your hotel.

We really loved Saas Fee. It's a pretty unpretentious ‎resort with plenty on offer you can even go and ski Zermatt for the day if you feel adventurous or check out the chalet used for the music video for Wham's Last Christmas - we did Ha Ha.

On the return journey we set off early to have a full day in Geneva, visiting Cern and the other attractions on offer. We then stayed overnight in the same hotel before taking the train ‎back to London via lille.

The train really is the easiest stress free way to travel. We definitely won't be flying anymore for our ski holidays.
