Journey

Having had a great skiing holiday, I thought I would share my experience with anyone who is contemplating a skiing trip. We went for a family break in La Rosiere, two adults and a five and six year old.  The train journey was something I was a little dubious about at first, as I have always flown to destinations, but I was soon put at ease once I had taken my seat on the train.  Luxurious seats, a bar serving a range of wine and beers, an essential ingredient to wind down and prepare for what lies ahead.  We had a great view, some of the most breathtaking scenery I've ever seen, and another great point to this train journey, no checking in and huge security checks to endure!

The train was very comfortable, with a relaxed atmosphere and lots like-minded people, some of whom we got to know quickly, the best part was the scenery, absolutely beautiful, and you can take this all in whilst relaxing back in your seat.  The trains are certainly family friendly, offering a range of activities for the little ones whilst they're aboard.  My husband and I relaxed and the kids played together with the games that were provided on the train, this seemed a little strange to me,  as there wasn't a cross word said between them!
Upon arrival I checked in to my chalet (http://www.chaletchezrobert.com) I was pleased with the welcome I got from Josie and Xavier - they made us feel very welcome and conformable.   My chalet was warm, clean and I had a nice view, the kids were tired from the travelling and also the excitement of the holiday itself.  We decided to take it easy for the rest of the day.
My expectations had been exceeded on every level, we dumped our things in the room and headed off to the restaurant as I was ready for a little lunch.  The food is all home cooked, and delicious, they have locally sourced ingredients, and these guys most definitely live up to their reputation for being great with food.  My wife often likes a vegetarian meal and they were always eager to tempt her with their range of exciting vegetarian dishes, whilst I, most of the time veered towards the rare cooked steak.
We had a great first night, I often struggle to sleep in unfamiliar surroundings but my bed was so comfy I drifted off in to a deep sleep, when I woke I was quick to leap out of bed and sample the breakfast, If you appreciate good food, you'll love it here, I couldn't fault the breakfast, lots of choice, all remarkable quality, every taste is catered for, the staff were very friendly and eager to chat about the local area, and their experience of the slopes.

We got straight out on to the slopes, being our first full day we wanted to make the most of it. Or family are all at different levels when it comes to skiing, I like the off-piste stuff, whilst my husband and kids prefer the more tame side of the slopes.  Our first day was great, and the rest of the week flew by.
If there are days when you hope for a little break away from the kids to have adult conversation for a while, we found a lovely kids club (http://winter.larosiere.net/winter-kids-club.html), this was a place where we felt at ease to leave the children and could rest assured they were in safe hands.  Another great find of ours, If you're not content to just relax in the evening is a place called Evo2 (www.evolution2larosiere.com) there's lots of entertainment and activities here.  This is most definitely a place where we'll return, a great holiday, with lots to do, for all the family!
