Eurostar Ski Train - alternatives if it is sold out

This morning the Eurostar Ski Train went on sale.  Two hours after going on sale, the daytime Eurostar Ski Train had already sold out for February half term (outbound 10th Feb, return 17th Feb).

However, if you missed out on booking, there are alternative options to get you to the ski resorts in the Tarentaise by train.

1. Eurostar via Lyon + local train

In summary:
You can take a Eurostar direct from London or Ashford to Lyon Part Dieu station, and from there switch platform and take a local train to the Moutiers, Aime, Landry and Bourg St Maurice stations (as well as lots of other stations for non-Tarentaise resorts too).  On the return, you take a local train back to Lyon Part Dieu, switch platform for the Eurostar and then do the check-in and passport control at Lille (where the Eurostar stops).  This stop is a bit annoying (you have to get off the train with your luggage and then get back on) but still well worth it overall.

When it goes on sale:  Six months ahead of the date of travel.

2. Eurostar + TGV

In summary:
Take Eurostar to Paris, change station from Gare du Nord to Gare de Lyon by taxi and then a TGV train from Paris to the Alps. For the return journey, you just to do the same thing in reverse.

When it goes on sale:  90 days ahead of the date of travel.

Predicted cost for Feb half term:  £360 return per adult; £270 return per child

Predicted cost for Feb half term:  £375 return per adult; £280 return per child

1. Eurostar + TGV (with Paris stopover)

In summary:
Take a Eurostar to Paris the day or evening that your holiday begins, then transfer by taxi to a hotel by Gare de Lyon. There are lots of clean, comfortable, inexpensive hotels within 150 metres of the station. Next morning walk over to the station and onto your TGV train and head to the Alps, arriving earlier than you would have done if you'd travelled on the Eurostar Ski Train. On the way back you just travel straight though by TGV and then Eurostar.
