Bus timetables for Tarentaise will be published in English

Over the centuries, there have been many great works translated between languages.  Think of War and Peace; Kafka’s The Trial, and The Odyssey. These must have taken a bit of work to translate.

So it was bewildering that for the past two winter seasons, French bus timetables for the Tarentaise region (for resorts such as Meribel, Val Thorens, La Plagne, Les Arcs, La Rosiere, Val d’Isere and Tignes) were not translated into English.

Devising the timetables in the first place is a big job.  Running the buses is a big job. But translating the timeable pdf documents – essentially changing ‘Lundi’ to ‘Monday’ and ‘Circulation’ to ‘Traffic’ etc — well that’s surely not that difficult.

But for the past two seasons, it wasn’t done. Frustrating for all the British and International clients of these popular ski resorts, who might want to be able to peruse timetables in their native tongue.

If you are still reading, good news: we’ve spoken with Rhone Alps, the tourism region responsible for the buses and timetables, and for the 2019-20 the timetable will be translated into English.  Also these pdfs will be available, earlier than before, this year in early November.  We’ll publish them on Snowcarbon as soon as they are available.

These small wins are important steps in making it easier for more skiers to enjoy comfortable and sustainable journeys to the Alps by train.

Tolstoy, Kafka and Homer would no doubt all be proud. Well, maybe.
